also entitled “I JUST GOT MARRIED!”
If you’ve been following @The_Demoiselle on Twitter you already know the reason for my haitus: an impromptu ENGAGEMENT and an even more spontaneous WEDDING! (Superb reasons if I do say so myself.) I’m also going to blame the tremendous life change for today’s delayed post as well. It’s been a little tough getting off this blissful cloud….but enough about my procrastination and onward to the bling!
Miraculously, in just over 7 days, I managed to plan an elopement down to the tiniest detail – the most meaningful of which was designing and making my own engagement ring.
Jewelry design is my passion and it was tremendously important for me to bring our symbols of love to life with my own hands. If you’re as unconventional as I am – even if you’re not a jewelry designer – you should definitely consider designing your own ring.
3 Tips For Designing Your Own Wedding Rings
1. Make sure it’s in your budget. Consider the cost. A made-to-order ring takes more time, more labor and is therefore more expensive. But, some larger retailers allow for mixing and matching of settings, bands and even embellishments at only a fraction more than their standard rings.
2. Look outside the box for inspiration. Bridal magazines, wedding blogs, jewelry stores are great places to find ideas but beautiful imagery in fashion, art, and design magazines and even museums will take your creativity to the next level.
3. Find the right designer for you. A referral from someone you trust is often a safe route but if you’re on your own be prepared with a few key questions: What’s their style, do they have any professional affiliations, how long have they been desinging, can they offer references if they’re newer to the industry? Most important make sure your personalities mesh – you need to trust one another. You should trust that they know how jewelry is constructed and they should respect your vision and find a way (within reason) to make it a reality.
I cannot wait to share the wedding photos. Soon my sweets…very soon!
