Fashion: Mommy & Me

May 14th, 2012

My favorite post on this blog is probably the Mother’s Day post that featured my uber stylish mom.

Though model Maryna Linchuk doesn’t even come close to my mother ;) I’m loving the NYC-LA-Paris fashion mom vibe. Fierce indeed! Hope my mommy readers had a lovely day yesterday – Happy Belated Mother’s Day!

Home: Girly-est Hamper Ever + Where I’ve Been

May 11th, 2012

I know, I know, it’s been AGES since I last posted! By way of excuse explanation I’ve been on the dastardly New York City apartment hunt. If you’re familiar with the housing market round these parts you understand how much energy, focus and hutzpah it takes to score a great place – and score we did!

Things are looking waaaay up since we signed the lease and I can’t wait to share the details. In the meantime it’s all about finding creative ways to tackle storage scarcity in our new abode (we’re downsizing and joining the ranks of tiny – but fabulous – apartment dwellers). First up – the hamper! I’m thinking this ruffly baby hanging from a hook behind bathroom door or even in open view on the bedroom wall…it’s certainly pretty enough.

Home: Accessorizing My Pantry

April 27th, 2012

Sometime in the not-so-distant past my kitchen was a catastrophe. I was abusing Ziploc bags, bursting at the seams with mismatched tupperware and living with no coherent system for storing my dry goods. That is until I saw this dreamy “zero-waste” kitchen & met the latest love of my kitchen life: Le Parfait jars.

Cooking is once again a joy (now that I’m no longer unearthing ingredients from a visually unappealing, plastic pile of disorganization). It’s a small element but one glimpse of those the gleaming jars of varying height, those orange rubber seals, and “Le Parfait” etched in pretty french font bring me joy. Once again, it’s all about the little things.

Weddings: The New Veil

April 25th, 2012

Floor length or poufy the cape has popped up on several bridal runways this season. I love this fresh approach to bridal gown design and think it’s a trend setting replacement of the staid veil. Thoughts?

In order of appearance – Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, Ines Di Santo.

Being a lady certainly doesn’t have to be boring! The spring 2012 campaign starring Australian actress Mia Wasikowska captured by David Sims highlights Miu Miu’s famously quirky, kitschy energy. Enjoy the extended gallery below.

Weddings: My Week About Town & Bridal Market

April 18th, 2012

It was a whirlwind of a warm, sunny, summery week in NYC. In no particular order I enjoyed wedding dresses with pockets, cathedral length capes in lieu of veils at the Ines Di Santo show, fading cherry blossoms (or as I prefer to call them: nature’s sequins), freshly bloomed tulips, a grown & sexy night on the town for a bachelorette party, a stop over to Fish’s Eddy for some kitchen supplies, and the surprisingly lovely accessory collection at the Vera Wang “White” preview. P.S. Are you Instagraming yet?

Home: Hostess Gifts that Trump Wine

April 13th, 2012

“To order and conduct a dinner is given only to fine gastronomes, of delicate and cultivated tastes; an able host is as rare as a good cook.” -Lucien Tendret

In my experience a hostess gift that’s more creative than a bottle of one’s preferred intoxicant is just as rare. Next time you’re invited to someone’s home you can be an original with either of these choices.

Trend to ♥: Toe Capped Heels

April 10th, 2012

Put a modern twist on the the standard pointy pump with a silver tip (or gold or spiked or whatever) toe cap. Louis Vuitton’s pair is making the rounds on the celebrity circuit but Zara offers a more accessible option I personally adore.

For a more functional approach to the trend Second City Style has a fantastic roundup of cap toe flats.

Home: This Chair Folds Completely Flat!

April 6th, 2012

Mod, architectural, geometric, colorful & foldable, the Flux Chair is the definition of great design. The oragami inspired shape would definitely add some urban zen to my city dwelling. What about yours?

More about the desingers, the inspiration, the materials & the fold-it-flat-factor below.

Designed by two Hollanders, Douwe Jacobs and Tom Schouten, the Flux chair was inspired by the need for flat folding and innovative furniture that’s both practical and stylish. Japanese Origami-style folds dominate the design and the Flux Chair can fold completely flat with a carrying handle in less than 10 seconds (if you’re sober). Easily transportable and 21-count stackable in a one-foot space, this beautiful chair can pull double duty at a picnic or as fine dining furniture in your mod condo. Built from resilient and water-proof polypropylene, the Flux Chair can take it in spades and look good all the while. – Gear Patrol

Hope you have a lovely weekend all!

Life: Engaging the Senses

April 5th, 2012

I’ve just discovered the kumquat. As the New York Times puts it the kumquat is like an orange in reverse, with a sweet skin and tart pulp.

That’s not to say I didn’t know it existed, I knew but hadn’t yet experienced it. Eating one is quite literally a full on sensory experience & it shouldn’t be missed. (Recipes down below!)

And the next time those teeny meeny orange-esque fruits catch your eye (like they did mine on my last impromptu Dean & Deluca coffee run – p.s. I always walk out of there with more than I originally walked in for but I digress) pick one up. Why not?

Kumquat recipes I’ll be trying soon:
Kumquat, Dates & Shaved Parmesan Salad
Shrimp with Pinnapple & Pickled Kumquats
Kumquat Mojitos
Spicy Candied Kumquats
